DEKALB, Ill. -With inclement weather postponing the Northern Illinois University football team's ninth practice of the spring the Huskies took the opportunity to draft their teams for the Inaugural Huskie Bowl.

The Huskie Bowl will be held Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. at Huskie Stadium and will mark the end of 2013 spring practices. The event is free and open to the public.

Linebackers coach Kevin Kane will serve as the head coach of the Cardinal team, while offensive line coach Joe Tripodi is the head coach of the Black. Both head coaches will have use of offensive coordinator Bob Cole and defensive coordinator Jay Niemann.

During the split-squad scrimmage, each team will have 10 possessions from their own 25-yard line and two possessions from the other team's 25 going into the end zone. The only special teams plays of the game will be field goals and extra points. If the game is tied after the 12 possessions, the game will go into overtime.

Both head coaches were satisfied with their picks in today's draft. Tripodi feels running the ball and stopping the run are going to be keys to victory, while Kane's draft strategy revolved around skill and speed.

"I'm extremely happy with the draft," Tripodi said . "Obviously, being an O-line guy, I want to run the football and stop the run. We've got those guys up front. We've got some good skill guys. It should be fun."

"We wanted to make sure we grabbed those key positions first," Kane said. "You can't start a play without a center. Andrew Ness was our top pick. There's a comfort level with him and Jordan. We wanted to get our edges secure with our tackles and defensive ends and our corners."

Quarterback Jordan Lynch and safety Jimmie Ward were selected by Kane and the Cardinal team, while defensive tackle Ken Bishop and tight end Luke Eakes highlight some of the players on Tripodi's Black squad.
