The NIU football team wrapped up its 13th practice of spring under cold and rainy conditions at Huskie Stadium Monday afternoon. Two days after holding its annual spring game, the Huskies pulled back a little turning in an hour-long workout in shorts and helmets.
The first third of practice was spent working on special teams, and individual work, the second part was pass skelly and the last three periods of practice were dedicated to preparation for this weekend's inaugural Huskie Bowl. Following period eight, the squad split into their respective Cardinal and Black teams.
Cardinal head coach Kevin Kane took his team to the North end zone, while Black head coach Joe Tripodi took his squad to the South end zone. Both team worked on their field goal/extra points. A big roar came from the Cardinal side of the field on its first made field goal, while the Black team responded in kind with a cheer of their own following one of its made field goals.
The team returns to the practice field at 6 a.m. Tuesday (April 16). Be sure to catch NIU head coach Rod Carey sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and will be televised on WGN-TV.
