DeKALB, Ill. - With rain and thunderstorms hammering the region on Wednesday, Northern Illinois and the Chicago Cubs will reschedule Head Coach Rod Carey's Wrigley Field appearance for later this season.
Carey had been scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th Inning Stretch on Wednesday. The Cubs game with the Texas Rangers was cancelled.
Carey is looking forward to the opportunity to go to Wrigley Field and even "practiced" Tuesday by throwing out the first pitch at the NIU-Bradley baseball game on campus. With the status of both the first pitch and the seventh inning in doubt for tonight due to the weather, the Cubs and NIU decided to schedule Carey's appearance for another home game.
NIU's first-year head coach will have his team back on the practice field this Friday and on Saturday, April 20, Northern Illinois will play the inaugural "Huskie Bowl," an intrasquad game between the Cardinal and Black teams led by assistant coaches Kevin Kane and Joe Tripodi, respectively. The Huskie Bowl will begin at 1 p.m. and is open to the public.
