DeKALB, Ill. - Nearly a month after his originally scheduled date, NIU Football Head Coach Rod Carey will make his long-awaited Wrigley Field debut Monday, May 13 when the Chicago Cubs face the Colorado Rockies at 7:05 p.m. (CT).

Carey will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th Inning Stretch. The Huskies' first-year head coach will visit with Cubs broadcasters Len Kasper and Jim Deshaies during the top half of the seventh. The game will be televised on WCIU TV in Chicagoland, on MyNetworkTV (Comcast Cable Channel 16) in Rockford and on MLB.TV

Carey begins his first full season as the Huskies' head coach in 2013 after taking over last December on the same day that Northern Illinois earned a spot in the Discover Orange Bowl. He coached his first game as a head coach in the Orange Bowl versus Florida State.

Northern Illinois returns 14 starters (8 offense, 5 defense, 1 specialist) in 2013, led by dual-threat quarterback Jordan Lynch (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel HS), a 2012 second-team All-American who accounted for nearly 5,000 yards of total offense while setting NCAA records for rushing by a quarterback with 12 100-yard rushing games. Leading tackler Jimmie Ward and the Huskies' entire offensive line are among the 55 returning letterwinners for 2013.

Northern Illinois opens the 2013 season August 31 at Iowa, the only team to beat NIU during the 2012 regular season, and looks to extend a 21-game Huskie Stadium winning streak when the Huskies take on Eastern Illinois in the 2013 home opener on Sept. 21, 2013.

Season tickets for NIU's 2013 home schedule are on sale now. The new Huskieland Plan, which includes a ticket to all five home games (sections A and G) and $50 in Doggie Dollars good for parking and/or concessions, is just $50. All remaining season ticket locations for the 2013 Huskie Stadium home slate are just $100 while NIU Alumni Association members, senior citizens (62+), youth (3-13), NIU Varsity Club (former letterwinners) members and faculty and staff can see every game for just $88. For tickets, call 815-753-1923 or log on to www.NIUHuskies.com/tickets for more information.
