DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University invites all Huskie football alumni to support the program they helped build, and to connect with current coaches, staff and administration, by returning to DeKalb for the 19th Annual Brigham-Novak Gridiron Classic.

This year's two-day event will be held Thursday and Friday, July 24-25, beginning with the first football alumni "Team Meeting" on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Jeffrey & Kimberly Yordon Center and continuing Friday with the golf tournament at Kishwaukee Country Club. Friday's events get underway at 7:30 a.m. with registration and continental breakfast at the course, with golf getting underway at 8:30 a.m. and the luncheon and awards immediately following at 2:30 p.m.

The opportunity to bring Huskie football alumni together as a group the night before the golf tournament made DeKalb the logical choice for this year's Brigham-Novak Gridiron Classic, said NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier.

"Both Coach Carey and I recognize that this is a critically important time for Huskie football," Frazier said. "In order to continue moving NIU Football forward, we need the former players who put so much into building this program to come together, to be engaged and to join us as we take the next steps. There will always be change on a college campus, but this is their program and they will always be members of the Huskie Family. I'm excited to get our former players back to DeKalb and spend a lot of time talking NIU football with them."

During the "Team Meeting", a private event open to NIU football alumni only, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier and Head Football Coach Rod Carey will provide an in-depth look at the current and future state of the program in a question and answer session that will include topics like football scheduling, NIU's place in the new college football playoff system, recruiting and facilities. Food and drinks will be served. The gathering is free, and all football alumni are invited, whether they plan to play in the golf tournament or not. Please register for the event by clicking here or call 815-753-PACK (7225).

Special discounted rates for the Brigham-Novak Gridiron Classic participants have been arranged at the brand new Hampton Inn DeKalb (663 S. Annie Glidden Rd.) and the Red Rood Inn DeKalb (formerly the Best Western, 1212 W. Lincoln Highway). Call and mention the Brigham-Novak to receive the special rate.

The 19th Annual Brigham-Novak Gridiron Classic brings current and former NIU coaches, football alumni and supporters from throughout the region together for a fun day of golf and Huskie pride. Proceeds from the event directly benefit the NIU football program through the Huskie Athletic Fund. Named in honor of legendary Huskie coach and athletic director Bob Brigham and Hall of Fame head coach Joe Novak, the tournament also features raffle and hole prizes, appearances by current NIU players, and a silent auction.

The cost to golf is $175 for a single entry or $650 for a foursome with a special $125 price for young alumni (graduated within five years). Sponsorships are available at rates ranging from $350 to $5,000. Non-golfers who wish to attend the luncheon and awards can sign up for $45.

Between now and June 20th, registration for the golf tournament is available for football alumni only. Click here to register, or print and mail the form (see link above). Open registration begins June 21st (online).
