DEKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University wide receiver and kick return specialist Tommylee Lewis was named to the 2014 Paul Hornung Award Watch List the Louisville Sports Commission announced today.
The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is given annually to the most versatile player in college football by the Louisville Sports Commission.
It is the second year in a year the Huskie wide out has been named to the Hornung Award Watch List. The native of Riveria Beach, Fla. led NIU in receptions with a career-high 86 for 715 yards. He recorded his school-record fourth career kickoff return for a touchdown in NIU's 55-24 win at Purdue last season. He averaged 11.9 yards on 30 carries to rank third on the team in rushing yards. Lewis threw his first career touchdown pass, connecting with Heisman Trophy finalist Jordan Lynch.
Named an honorable mention All-American by SI.com as an all-purpose player, Lewis was a first team All-MAC selection as well in 2013.
Lewis and the Huskies open the 2014 season at home when NIU welcomes Presbyterian to Huskie Stadium Thursday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Huskie players report for preseason camp Friday, Aug. 1. NIU's 26-game home winning streak at Huskie Stadium leads the nation. The Huskies have not dropped a home game since 2009.
