DEKALB, Ill. - Attention Huskie fans! Here's your chance to get a sneak peek of the 2009 Northern Illinois University football team when the Huskies hold an open scrimmage Saturday at Huskie Stadium.

Gates on the west side of the stadium will open at 9 a.m. with the team taking the field for their regularly scheduled practice beginning at 9:50 a.m. The event is free and open to the public and fans will be able to stand on the sidelines to get an up close and personal look at this year's squad. Seating in the West Stands is also available. Prior to, during and after the scrimmage, season ticket holders and Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund donors will be able to pick up their 2009 season tickets & HASF benefits at the west side ticket windows at Huskie Stadium. Any tickets not picked up will be mailed the following week.

Following the practice, which will consist primarily of 11-on-11 drills with officials on hand, Huskie players will be available for autographs. Fans can pick up free schedule posters, magnets and schedule cards for the 2009 season.

Northern Illinois heads into 2009 looking to build on its 2008 campaign that saw NIU earn a bid to the Independence Bowl, its second bowl game in three years. Leading the way for second-year head coach Jerry Kill's Huskies are sophomore quarterback Chandler Harnish (Bluffton, Ind./Norwell) and senior safety David Bryant (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins). Bryant was the leading tackler on the Mid-American Conference's No. 1 defense last year with 83 tackles, while Harnish led the team in rushing, passing and total offense.

Tickets for the 2009 Northern Illinois season are on sale now at the value price of just $90 for all six games. Discounts are available for NIU Faculty and Staff, NIU Alumni Association and Varsity Club members and senior citizens. A three-game "mini-plan" and single game tickets are also on sale. Tickets can be ordered at www.niuhuskies.com, by calling 815-752-6800 or in person at the Athletics Ticket Office in the NIU Convocation Center. The Huskie Ticket Office will take new season and single game ticket orders Saturday as well.
