Sept. 5, 2012
DeKALB, Ill. -Northern Illinois and the University of Wyoming will meet on the football field in 2015 and 2016 in a home-and-home football series, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Jeff Compher and Wyoming Director of Athletics Tom Burman announced Wednesday. The Cowboys will visit DeKalb on Sept. 26, 2015 for a game at Huskie Stadium, while NIU will travel to Laramie, Wyoming to open the 2016 season on Sept. 3, 2016. The games will be the first ever played between NIU and Wyoming, a member of the Mountain West Conference. "This is a great series for our fans and for our football team," Compher said. "Wyoming will bring a highly-competitive Mountain West Conference team to Huskie Stadium, and in 2016, Northern Illinois players and fans will have a chance to visit one of the most scenic states in the nation." Compher said NIU is finalizing additional contracts with opponents for 2014 and beyond. Northern Illinois (0-1), takes on the UT Martin (1-0) Saturday at 6 p.m. in its Huskie Stadium opener. Season tickets, including the 2012 HuskieLand Plan, remain on sale through the NIU Athletics Ticket Office at 815-752-6800. The HuskieLand Plan offers a ticket to the UT Martin, Kansas (Sept. 22) and Toledo (Nov. 14) games for just $60 along with $15 gift cards each to Buffalo Wild Wings, Village Commons Bookstore and Hy-Vee. In addition, Northern Illinois has joined with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to offer $10 tickets to Saturday's game with a canned food donation. The donation truck will be set up on the West Side of Huskie Stadium. Saturday marks Band Day at Huskie Stadium with 1,500 high school band students joining the Huskie Marching Band to provide halftime entertainment, while the crowd will be treated to a post-game fireworks show. -- NIU -- Twitter: @NIUAthletics
