DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois football team will celebrate its annual Senior Day when the Huskies welcome Mid-American Conference West Division foe Toledo to Huskie Stadium on Wed., Nov. 14. This year, Huskie Athletics and the Student Association are inviting ALL Northern Illinois graduating students to participate in the Senior Day festivities through a number of promotions to be executed by Athletics and the Student Involvement & Leadership Development Office.
Before the game, NIU seniors who have applied for graduation are invited to enjoy free hot dogs, chips and soda at the Student Association tailgate tent on the East Side of Huskie Stadium. The tailgate begins at 6 p.m. and food and drinks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
NIU Athletics is offering 500 NIU seniors one free guest ticket to Wednesday night’s game. To get a free guest ticket, as well as a wristband which will admit you to the field where seniors will form the halftime tunnel, stop by the Holmes Student Center Box Office next Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12-14). The Box Office is open from 12:30-4:30 p.m. on each of those three days. The free guest tickets will NOT be available at Huskie Stadium and must be picked up at the HSC Box Office in advance.
Five minutes prior to halftime, graduating students should report to the Northeast field gate (between East stands and Yordon Center, down the sidewalk from the softball field), where they can pick up a free winter hat (while supplies last) courtesy of the NIU Alumni Association. After picking up their hat, the students will be escorted onto the field, where they will form the halftime tunnel and cheer on the Huskies as they come out of the Yordon Center to begin the third quarter. Participants MUST wear their wristbands in order to take part in the on-field festivities.
“I think this is a unique way to reward all the seniors who’ve worked tirelessly toward graduation during their NIU careers,” accountancy graduate student Sam Kunde said. “It’s not every day you get to go out on the field at what is shaping up to be an instant classic versus Toledo.”
NIU students at all levels are admitted free to the game with their NIU OneCards. Students may simply swipe their OneCard at the stadium gates when they enter the game.
Additionally, all fans are encouraged to wear black to the game as part of the effort to “BlackOut” Huskie Stadium for the ESPN2 primetime broadcast. To purchase tickets to the game in advance, go online to www.NIUHuskies.com, call the NIU Ticket Office at 815-752-6800 or stop by the Ticket Office in the NIU Convocation Center Monday-Friday between 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
NIU is also offering a coupon good for a $10 ticket with a donation of cash or canned goods to the Salvation Army at the red kettles and boxes located on the West Side of Huskie Stadium. For more information on the Salvation Army coupon promotion, see the release on NIUHuskies.com, or call the NIU Athletics External Office at 815-753-1923.
