DeKALB - Students and fans hoping to travel to the International Bowl with one of Northern Illinois Athletics' featured travel packages must sign up by this Friday, December 18 at 5 p.m. by calling the Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund at (815) 753-1923.
Limited space is still available for both packages, which include travel to Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the Jan. 2 game against USF, and a ticket to the NIU section of the Rogers Centre where the game will take place.
Non-students can choose from two travel packages, so they can pick the bowl experience that is right for them. The first includes transportation from the Convocation Center in DeKalb or from Oakbrook, Ill. to Toronto, two nights (double occupancy) at the team hotel, a lower bowl ticket to the game in the NIU section, access to the HASF/Alumni Tailgate, an International Bowl t-shirt, and a special bowl gift for $428. The second package mirrors the first, but is designed for fans who will make their own way to Toronto. It does not include the bus trip, and is available for $245.
With either package, the Huskie faithful can arrive and check-in to the official team hotel Dec. 31, in time to hit the town for Toronto's fantastic New Year's Eve celebration. On New Year's Day, fans will have time to visit some of Toronto's world-famous tourist attractions, and check out the International Bowl Battle of the Bands at Metro Square Hall.
On gameday, Huskie fans will check out of their hotel and into the HASF/Alumni Pre-game Tailgate for food, fun and all the pregame festivities NIU Nation has come to expect leading up to kick-off. After the game, fans will return on an official NIU bus, where they can relax from another thrilling Huskie bowl experience.
The student package starts at just $100 for the first 100 students who sign-up. The trip includes transportation to Toronto on Friday, January 1, leaving from the NIU Convocation Center in DeKalb with a pick-up location at the Oakbrook Center in Oakbrook, Ill. at 10:15 a.m. Buses will stop twice on the way to Toronto before arriving at the Northern Illinois team hotel, the Sheraton Centre, at approximately 9 p.m. (EST).
Travelers will spend the nights of January 1st and 2nd at the Sheraton Centre (four people per room), and receive a free ticket to the Huskies' match-up versus the University of South Florida Bulls. The game will be played in the Rogers Centre, the world's first stadium built with a fully retractable roof, beginning at Noon (EST).
Following the game, return to the hotel or enjoy the sights and sounds of Toronto. Buses will leave for the return trip to Oakbrook and DeKalb on Sunday, January 3 at 9 a.m. (EST).
In addition to the bus package, NIU is offering a hotel only option for students who want to make their own way to Toronto. Cost of the Student Hotel package, which consists of two nights at the Sheraton Centre (four people per room) and a free game ticket, is just $98. There is NO discounted price available for the hotel only package. The Sheraton Centre is located within walking distance of the Rogers Centre and many attractions in downtown Toronto.
Huskie fans who arrive in the city Friday afternoon are also invited to attend the Battle of the Marching Bands at 5:30 p.m. at Metro Hall Square before enjoying a night on the town in Toronto, and can get fired up just prior to the game at the Game Day Pep Rally on the stadium plaza.
