We arrived at the Yordon Center about 7:30 this morning, started blogging at 8, collected and compiled all the information, had a press conference and are still at it as our Signing Day Reception prior to the men’s basketball game is underway here at the Convocation Center.
We did have some issues with our audio connections today during the press conference and we apologize for those of you that were tuning in to the free live webstream. We tried to make the best of it and get through without holding up a room full of media and guests too much. We realize the sound quality is not where it needs to be. Bottom line, it’s time to upgrade our equipment so that we can both live stream and provide good audio simultaneously. Our programs deserve it and so do our fans.
Along those lines, we are having an issue getting the press conference on the archives. We hope it can be resolved but is going to take some folks with a little more technical and computer expertise than we possess so it may be tomorrow before that is posted. In the meantime, we will have quotes from the Dave Doeren’s intro and the Q&A portion of today’s press conference available on NIUHuskies.com later this evening.

The fun doesn't stop on signing day - you just never know what to expect. We figured to be done for the day around 10 a.m., only to find out in the 11thhour - literally - that Vero Beach, Fla. wide receiver Charlie Miller was committing to play ball for the Huskies. Flat out, the kid is a stud. I think you'll be impressed by his highlight video on Huskies All Access. Quick reminder that the press conference will begin at 2:30 p.m. central time and can be viewed for free on NIUHuskies.com, or by clicking here.
In the mean time, check out a quick highlight of the morning from the Yordon Center:
WORTH THE WAIT
By Donna Turner | Posted at 10:23 am on Wednesday, February 1, 2012
Just as I was lamenting that there's always one guy that doesn't send in his NLI until the afternoon (usually right before the press conference starts), preventing us from finalizing our lists until minutes before the press conference, Recruiting Coordinator Ryan Nielsen reminded me that a year ago that guy was none other than speedy WR/KR Tommylee Lewis. Lewis became one of only three true freshmen signed on Signing Day 2011 to play for the Huskies last season. "He was worth the wait," said Nielsen. His record of two kickoff return touchdowns in a game - set versus Toledo - may not be broken for a while, unless of course, Lewis himself does it?

WHY NOT MINOT?
By Donna Turner | Posted at 9:01 am on Wednesday, February 1, 2012
North Dakota is present and accounted for in NIU's 2012 Signing Class! Minot High School's Dustin Adams, a 6-4, 285-pound offensive lineman is in and with his signing five offensive linemen are present and accounted for. Huskies signed five offensive linemen so far and they are not a small group! In addition to Adams and the Wisconsin duo (see previous post), Marengo's Scott Taylor and Detroit's Daron Brown are on board. Taylor goes 6-4, 270 while Brown is 6-4, 310. And yes, the Huskies will now have TWO Daron/Da'Ron Browns but I'm guessing the sophomore receiver will not be confused with the freshman offensive lineman anytime soon.
Oh and by the way, the count is now at 21 and the faxes are coming in faster than the bios and video can be posted. So check the blog and follow us on Twitter @NIUAthletics for the latest, then go back and check the roster.

We're officially up to 17 NLIs today. Of the original 12 this morning, the other four are from Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. Linebacker Cody Hazelett (Inver Grove) is the lone representative of Minnesota, quarterback Drew Hare (O'Fallon) is from Missouri and a pair of offensive lineman from Wisconsin in Levon Myers (Franklin) and Josh Ruka (Greenfield).
KEEPIN' IT LOCAL

If there's one thing the Huskies have been able to do over the years, it's attract in-state players to the program. So far in the group of 12, eight of the signees are from Illinois.
Here's the list of signees from the Land of Lincoln:
Mike Cotton, LB (O'Fallon), Perez Ford, RB (Romeoville), Keith Harris Jr., RB (Chicago), Michael Ippolito, DE (Naperville), Austin Smaha, LB (Belvidere), Scott Taylor, OL (Marengo), Corey Thomas, DT (Chicago), Matt Williams, QB (Geneva).
WE'RE READY TO RUMBLE

The coffee's been brewed, the tray of danishes has been set, the computers are connected to WiFi and are ready to roll for National Signing Day. As of this time, the Huskies have a total of 12 Letters of Intent faxed in to the football office. Not included on the list of 12 is Ellsworth Community College transfer Ken Bishop, a gerthy defensive tackle (6-2, 311 pounds) from Sunrise, Fla.Bishop is already on campus and will surely be a welcomed addition to the Huskies defensive front-seven.
