DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Northern Illinois sophomore Jeff Dick (Sherman, Texas/Sherman HS) shot a five-under par 66 Sunday as NIU improved its team score by 18 strokes in the final round of the FAU Spring Break Championships in Delray Beach, Fla.

The Huskies' team score of four-over par 288 at the par 71 Gleneagles Country Club was the fifth best team score of the day in the 14-team field and lifted Northern Illinois into 13th place for the tournament.

Dick's 66 ties for the lowest score by an NIU golfer during the 2008-09 season and is a career low for the sophomore. He shot the second-lowest round of the day in the 84-man field on the strength of a bogey-free, five-birdie round.

Three Northern Illinois players - Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett HS), Matt Triplett (St. Charles, Ill./East HS) and Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill./Manteno HS) - carded 74s Sunday to account for the Huskies' 288 total. Kay and Triplett tied for 45th in the tournament at 11-over par 224.

"The guys just played more solidly today," said NIU Head Coach John Cleary. "Jeff played very well with a 66 and ended up in 13th place which was great. We ended on a good note and will take some positives out of this experience. It was a tough field and we spent the first couple days getting used to the wind, and the scoring, but the guys came through and played real well today. This is absolutely something to build on going into next week."

Illinois won the tournament going away with a 14 stroke win over second-place Michigan with Eastern Michigan taking third place and Northwestern fourth. Northern Illinois finished five strokes behind 12th place Missouri and well ahead of 14th-place St. John's. Individually, Illinois' Scott Langley took home medalist honors with an eight-under 205 with Jonathan Bowers of Northwestern in the runner-up slot, two strokes back. EMU's Cam Burke placed third.

Northern Illinois will see more of its MAC compatriots next week when the Huskies travel to Huntington, W. Va. to compete in the Marshall Invitational April 3-4.
