UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- Junior Liam White (Waukegan, Ill./Carmel Catholic/Indian Hills CC) led the Northern Illinois University men’s golf team with a two-round total 152 on Monday at the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Club.

UCLA and San Diego are tied for the team lead with two round totals of 556, two strokes ahead of Washington. San Diego’s Grant Forrest holds the individual lead with a 12-under par total of 128, seven strokes ahead of Arizona State’s Jon Rahm.

“This is a phenomenal golf course and a great setting for the US Open next year and a college golf tournament this week,” said NIU head coach Tom Porten. “We just did not execute our putters and our wedges today. It was disappointing to see us continue to struggle with our scoring clubs. We drove the golf ball fine today, we just could not get the ball close to the hole and we compounded that with too many three-putts.”

White carded a second round 75 for the Huskies, the best round of the day for NIU. White’s second round included 10 pars and a pair of birdies. NIU also counted 79’s from senior Shawn Foley (Pewaukee, Wis./Waukesha North), freshman Caulen Coe (Gulf Stream, Fla./University of Nebraska Independent School) and freshman Raphael Denais (Saint-Aventin, France/Lycee Ste Ursule) in the afternoon 18 holes.

Foley, returning to the lineup after missing the last two tournaments, opened with a 76, including three birdies, to pace the Huskies in the first round. White and Denais were just a stroke back, each posting an opening round 77 with a pair of birdies in each of their respective opening rounds.

The Redhawk Invitational will conclude on Tuesday, April 8, with the third, and final, round. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. CT (8 a.m. local).
