McKINNEY, Texas -- Senior Bryce Emory (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) of the Northern Illinois men’s golf team shot a 36-hole total 143 to lead the Jim West Intercollegiate, hosted by Texas State, at the TPC Craig Ranch.  The Huskies sit in 10th place as a team after Monday’s first two rounds.

Emory is two shots ahead of second-place Sarosh Adi of TCU, playing as an individual, and Texas State’s Stuart Smallwood.

"It was a tough day for the team but a great performance by Bryce all day," said Head Coach Tom Porten, "he was in command of his long and short game. He took advantage of the par fives and controlled his ball in very difficult, windy conditions. We look forward to trying to move up as a team and help Bryce win."

Emory carded a one-under 71 in Monday’s opening round. Emory started on the 11th hole and was three-under through his first eight holes. After dropping back to even-par, Emory birdied the 10th, his final hole, to finish in red numbers and tied for third after the first round.

In the afternoon round, Emory was three-over through his 12th hole before recording birdies on four of his next five holes to help him finish with an even-par 72.

Redshirt senior Griffin Bauman (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) posted the second-best opening 18 for the Huskies with a 77. Bauman started on No. 10 and made the turn in two-over, before back-to-back double bogies. Bauman rebounded with back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and 6 to help him finish with a 77. He sits in second among Huskie golfers, tied for 44th overall, with a two-round total of 157.

Freshman Connor Nelson (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) had the second-best second round, behind Emory, with a six-over 78. Nelson carded 13 pars on his round to finish the day with a 36-hole total of 158. Senior Kurtis Luedtke (Aurora, Ill./West) also finished Monday with a two-round total of 158.

The Huskies will begin final round action in the Jim West Intercollegiate at Tuesday, April 9, at 9 a.m.
