As a team, the Huskies shot 16-over par 300 Sunday to hold onto their 10th place spot at the par 71, 6,813-yard IU Championship Golf Course in Bloomington. The Huskies finished just one stroke behind ninth-place IUPUI while DePaul and Evansville tied for seventh, eight strokes ahead. Host Indiana, the nation's No. 6 team, won the 16-team event by 27 strokes over Eastern Kentucky with Purdue and the Hoosiers' "B" squad tied for third. Dick finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of six-over par 219 after posting scores of 75, 72 and 72 to tie for 16th. Frame was one stroke back after a final round 75 and tied for 19th. Junior Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett HS) placed 49th with a 76 on Sunday to finish at 16-over par 229 while the Huskies' also counted freshman Max Hosking's (Madison, Wisc./La Follette HS) 77. "Jeff's score today was very good and Andrew played solid all weekend," said NIU head coach John Cleary. "Tim [Kay] was solid. He got off to a bad start but hung in there and grinded out a lot of pars the rest of the way." Kay stood at five-over par after just six holes, then played even par the rest of the way to hang onto his score, while only seven golfers shot better than the one-over that Dick posted on the day. "We started moving in the right direction this weekend with Jeff and Andrew. We need some help at the four and five spots, but we are getting closer," Cleary said. "Max [Hosking] is starting to show signs of life, and Tim is playing pretty solid."
Indiana golfers took first and second place in the individual race with IU's Jorge Campillo taking the title by five strokes over teammate David Erdy as Campillo finished at 10-under 203. The Huskies continue the "Indiana swing" of their 2009 spring season next week as they will compete in the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. The MAC Championships will also be held in the Hoosier state as that tournament takes place at the Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis beginning April 30. "These are good tournaments with good fields at Indiana and Purdue," Cleary said. "Next week will be a good warm up for the MAC Championships at a very difficult golf course."
