IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Northern Illinois University men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational with a final round 305 on Sunday afternoon at Finkbine Golf Course. Freshman Caulen Coe (Gulf Stream, Fla./University of Nebraska Independent School) and junior junior Liam White (Waukegan, Ill./Carmel Catholic/Indian Hills CC) led the Huskies in the tournament with three-round totals of 230.

The host Iowa Hawkeyes claimed the team title by 15 strokes ahead of Iowa State, and Iowa’s Steven Ihm also earned individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 209, seven-under par, two strokes ahead of Scott Fernandez of Iowa State.

“We got off to a much better start today as a team,” said NIU head coach Tom Porten. “We knew that the rain was going to be a factor today and it poured for about the last nine holes. After our good start I thought we did a good job of holding on to the round, we just didn’t execute down the stretch. As the rain increased, the greens slowed down, a lot of greens that were fast became slow and we weren’t able to get the ball to the hole with the putter.

“We had encouraging signs from Pierrick Fillon, he played very well today, and Liam played pretty well, unfortunately he had a hiccup to finish his round.”

Freshman Pierrick Fillon (Voreppe, France/Lycee Pierre Beghin) posted the best round of the day for the Huskies, carding a two-over par 74, moving up nine places in the overall standings into a tie for 53rd. Fillon carded three birdies in his final round, including a birdie four on his closing hole, the par-five 15th.

White gave back three strokes in his final two holes, but still finished with a final round 76 to tie Coe with a team-best 47th-place finish. Coe posted a final round 77, equaling his mark from Saturday’s afternoon round.

The Huskies will return to action next weekend when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to compete in the Boilermaker Invitational beginning on Saturday, April 19.
