WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Northern Illinois' men's golf team completed the first two rounds of competition at the Boilermaker Invitational Saturday on the Kampen Course, site of the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championship. Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) leads the Huskies and is tied for 20th position after a pair of even par rounds.

Kay turned in one of his best performances of the season in the morning's first 18 holes and duplicated his 72 in the afternoon round to total a 144 for the day.

Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) is second among NIU golfers and is in a tie for 41st after firing rounds of 75 and 72 for a first day total of 147.

As a team, Northern Illinois is in 13th position with a two-round score of 601. The Huskies totaled a 299 in the first round and a 302 during the afternoon.

"Tim and Zach played well for us and both were at par during the afternoon," said head coach John Cleary. "As a team our morning round was okay but the scores as a whole were very low and we weren't able to take advantage of good course conditions."

Indiana and Michigan State are tied for first in a highly-competitive field includes four of top 36 teams in Golfstat's rankings, including fifth-ranked ranked Charlotte.

The third and final round will be played on Sunday at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
