Final Results in PDF Format

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) finished in a tie for 32nd to lead Northern Illinois at the Boilermaker Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday on the Kampen Course, site of the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championship.

Kay turned in a final round 75 to finish at 219, three strokes ahead of teammate Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) who also shot a 75 Sunday to finish at 222 and in a tie for 52nd.

Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) posted the Huskies' best score of the final round with a 73. He finished at 230, tying for 65th overall.

As a team, Northern Illinois placed 13th with a total score of 900, its best three-round mark of the spring. The Huskies combined for a third round score of 299, matching their first round tally.

"We played better today and we had almost as many birdies in the final round as we did during Saturday's first two rounds," said head coach John Cleary. "It was nice to get Andrew back on track with his 73 today and Tim and Zach both played a little better today than the did the first day."

Kent State finished first in a highly-competitive field that featured four of top 36 teams in Golfstat's rankings, including fifth-ranked Charlotte.

The Huskies return to action Saturday at the 36-hole FirstEnergy Invitational hosted by Kent State before competing at the MAC Championships May 2-4.

"We played tough competition on a tough course this weekend and it gave us a chance to see how we measure up and hopefully that will help us progress over the next two weeks," added Cleary. "A difficult course can be played well and we showed flashes of that today which can only prepare for the MAC Championships on a tough course. By hitting difficult shots and being able to pull shots off with hazards all around, it will hopefully make the conference tournament a bit easier."
