WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Senior Bryce Emory (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) of the Northern Illinois men's golf team is tied for eighth with an even-par 144 in the opening 36 holes of the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Emory led the Huskies to a two-round team total of 617 to claim 16th place heading into Sunday's final round.

Iowa holds the tournament lead with a team total of 577 through the first two rounds; Iowa's Joseph Winslow is the individual leader with a 36-hole score of 140.

"Two of our seniors, Griffin (Bauman) and Bryce (Emory) really responded well," said NIU head coach Tom Porten. "Bryce hit the ball fine this morning but just made nothing with the putter, this afternoon the putter got hot, especially on the front nine. He had a really strong afternoon; he drove it great, putted well and hit a bunch of good shots.

"When he had a wedge in his hand he made birdie and when he missed the fairway he got the ball up and around the green and was able to save par," Porten said of Emory. "He is playing his best golf of his career at a great time and hopefully tomorrow he will be in control again and have a chance at the top-three or top-five."

After opening with a three-over par round of 75 in the morning 18, Emory fired a three-under 69 in the afternoon round to finish the day even-par. Emory, who started both rounds on No. 10, made the turn in the afternoon at two-over before recording five birdies en route to a front nine 31 to finish with a second round 69.

Redshirt senior Griffin Bauman (Cyrstal Lake, Ill./Central) bounced back from a morning round of 81 to shoot a 73 in the afternoon, the best round for the Huskies outside of Emory's 69. Bauman, who also started his rounds on No. 10, had similar front nine success in his second round, carding three birdies to help record a second round one-over 73, Bauman is tied for 46th heading into Sunday's final 18 holes.

"Griffin came back after a couple of really bad breaks in the morning, including back-to-back double bogies," said Porten. "He came back this afternoon, putted well, kept his ball in play and did a great job."

Sophomore Nick Schiavi (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) carded rounds of 78 and 80 to claim a tie for 73rd heading into Sunday's final round and senior Kurtis Luedtke (Aurora, Ill./West), returning to the NIU lineup this weekend, had rounds of 83 and 79 to sit in a tie for 82nd with one round to play.

The final round of the Boilermaker Invitational will tee off at 7:45 a.m., CT on Sunday morning.
