Jecklin Finishes 7th, Named Sportsman of the Year at the MAC Championships
Frame finishes 18th to give Huskies two top-20 finishers.
NASHPORT, Ohio - Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) led Northern Illinois at the MAC Championships, finishing the tournament in a tie for seventh at the Longaberger Golf Club. As a team, the Huskies finished in ninth position following Sunday's final round.
Jecklin, NIU's lone senior, posted a 76 in Sunday's final round, giving him the best finish for a Huskie in the Tournament. Jecklin finished tied for seventh at 294 after a pair of even par 72's on Friday.
"Zach had a really great tournament," said NIU Head Coach John Cleary. "The Sportsman of the Year award is a great honor for Zach, and he is the first golfer in NIU history to receive this award."
Northern Illinois' finished the final round with a final score of 307, giving them a four-round total of 1216 for ninth place. In an awards ceremony held after the conclusion of the event, Jecklin was named the MAC men's golf Sportsman of the Year.
Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) finished the tournament in 18th with a final round of 74 to finish at 300. Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) finished in a tie for 29th with a four-round total of 309 (76-78-77-78).
Alex Wagner (St. Charles, Ill./East) at 43rd and Jeff Dick (Sherman, Texas/Sherman) at 44th rounded out the Huskie contingent.
"We Struggled today," said Cleary. "Andrew had a good round but we just couldn't get it going today."
