First Round Results | Second Round Tee Times
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The men's golf team from No. 21 UAB posted a four-over par 292 to take a one-stroke lead over No. 9 Illinois after the first day of the NCAA Sugar Grove Men's Golf Regional being played at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
Brian Campbell of Illinois shot a three-under par 69 on the par 72, 7,151-yard layout and owns the individual lead by one stroke over Taylor Pendrith of Kent State and Pablo Torres of Jacksonville State, who each carded two-under 70s on Thursday.
Six of the teams in the 14-team field are within 10 strokes of UAB. Clemson and Kent State are tied for third at 11-over 299, while Jacksonville State and Southern California are tied for fifth at 14-over par 302. California, the highest-ranked team in the field at No. 4, is seventh after an opening round 305.
UAB got consistent play from its four top players to claim the lead. The Blazers' Wilson McDonald shot even par 72 and is tied for fourth, Paul Dunne and Sam Love came in with one-over par 73s to tie for sixth, and Martin Rohwer posted a two-over 74 and is tied for 11th.
A pair of Illini golfers are in the Top 10 as Charlie Danielson shot a one-over 73 and is also tied for sixth.
On a day that started cold and rainy, then saw the sun peak through the clouds briefly as the wind picked up, any score at par or below was valuable on the Rich Harvest Farms layout.
