Second Round Final Results | Third Round Tee Times

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - UAB, ranked 21st in the latest Golfstat Collegiate Rankings, leads No. 9 Illinois by one stroke heading into the final day of the 2014 NCAA Sugar Grove Regional being played at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove after both teams shot rounds of four-over par 292 Friday.

Individually, Illinois' Brian Campbell continues to lead the tournament as he carded six birdies en route to a two-under par 70 on the day and a 36-hole total of five-under par 139 on the par 72, 7,151-yard layout. Campbell posted an eight on the par four fourth hole, yet still extended his first round lead by four strokes.

Eight golfers are tied for second place at one-over par entering the final round, including Cleveland State's Andrew Bailey, who had the lowest round of the day, a three-under 69 on a day that saw the start of the tournament pushed back two-and-a-half hours due to rainy and cold conditions. Temperatures all day remained in the 40s as the golfers battled the elements and the tough Rich Harvest Farms course.

California and Purdue posted the best team rounds of the day Friday as they both posted even par 288s. The Golden Bears got a one-under par 71 from Joel Stalter and even par rounds from Brandon Hagy and Michael Weaver to move up to fourth place, while Purdue went from shooting a 21-over par 309 Thursday to Friday's even par total. Purdue goes into the final round in sixth place, just three strokes behind fifth-place USC.

The fifth place spot becomes critical on Saturday as the top five teams in the regional, along with the top individual who is not a member of those teams advance to the NCAA Championships in, which will be played May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.


 

 

Enter Saturday's round, UAB, Illinois, Clemson, Cal and USC are in the top five spots, followed by Purdue in sixth. Jacksonville State and Kent State are tied for seventh, 14 strokes out of fifth.
