ERIN, Wis. – Led by a season-best round of 74 from junior Liam White (Waukegan, Ill./Carmel Catholic/Indian Hills CC), the Northern Illinois men’s golf team finished Monday’s second round of the Erin Hills Intercollegiate with a team total of 308 and enters Tuesday’s final round in 14th place.

Stanford holds the overall team lead at 11-under par, 11 strokes better than second-place SMU at even-par. Patrick Rodgers of the Cardinal and Bryson Dechambeau of the Mustangs are tied for the individual lead through 36 holes at four-under par.

“On the plus side, Liam continues to settle in,” said NIU head coach Tom Porten. “He hit 16 greens today. He is really starting to play his game, he hits ball on the fairway, he hits the ball on the green and is managing his round. Pierrick Fillon had a chance at even-par, or maybe under par, but then three-putted three of the last four greens.

“The rest of our guys just didn’t finish their rounds and we missed a great opportunity to catch a few teams. So it was frustrating, the ball-striking is getting better and we are giving ourselves opportunities to score but the putter hurt us. We had 11 three-putts as a team and you can’t beat teams if you can’t putt.”

White had a steady round to lead the way for NIU, carding just three bogies and one birdie while recording 14 pars on his way to 74. With his 74, White moved up from a tie for 45th to a tie for 36th overall. Through 13 holes, freshman Pierrick Fillon (Voreppe, France/Lycee Pierre Beghin) was even-par before giving back a stroke on No. 14 and one on each of the final three holes to close with a 76.

Freshman Caulen Coe (Gulf Stream, Fla./University of Nebraska Independent School) carded a pair of birdies on the back nine for a second round 78, Coe is just a shot behind Fillon through two rounds.

Tuesday’s final round of the Erin Hills Intercollegiate will begin at 8:30 a.m., with groups teeing off both No. 1 and No. 10.
