MUNCIE, Ind. -- Sophomore Nick Huggins (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) of the Northern Illinois men's golf team held the 18-hole lead on Monday at the Earl Yestingsmeier Individual Invitational at Delaware Country Club.

"Very pleased with Nick's play," said NIU assistant coach Andrew Frame. "He has been struggling with his putter recently but he has worked tremendously hard going through a change with his putter and finally today his hard work really paid off. He made six birdies and three bogies (in his first round), and putted fantastic. That was really the difference for him. He also hit the ball straight off the tee, which you have to do here. That is a great recipe for success when you hit it straight and you make your putts."

Play was suspended on Monday with the field midway through the second round of play; updated results at the time of the suspension were not available. As an individual event, no team scoring is being kept.

Huggins is through 15 holes in his second round and is currently six-over for the round. Senior Matt Gorman (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) has completed 15 holes in his second round and is four-under par for the round. Senior Greg Pohlmann (Decatur, Ill./Lakeview/Iowa Western CC) is one-over through 14 and freshman Connor Nelson (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegh) is seven-over through 17.

"Matt Gorman shot a 75 in the morning, wasn't really pleased with it, but he has had a fantastic bounce-back (in the second round) and hopefully he can finish that off in the morning," said Frame.

Huggins held the 18-hole lead after firing an opening round three-under 67. The Marietta, Ohio native shot a 33 on the front nine before carding a 34 on the back in his opening 18 of the day.

Gorman posted a first round 75, good for a tie for 22nd. Pohlmann finished round one tied for 25th after carding a 76 on his opening 18 of the day and Nelson, making his collegiate debut, opening with an 81 in the first round.

Play will resume tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., with the completion of the second round, immediately followed by third round play.
