Four Huskies shot season-low rounds as senior Matt Triplett (St. Charles, Ill./East) leads NIU in a tie for 17th (77-68--145) after shooting a season-best 68 in the second round. Freshman Matt Gorman (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) ranks in a tie for 21st (69-77--146) as he shot a season-best 69 in the first round, which at the time tied him for first. Junior Jeff Dick (Sherman, Texas/Sherman) is tied for 39th (78-70--148) after she scored a season-low 70 to finish the day. Freshman Bryce Emory (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) and senior Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) are tied for 65th (78-75--153) as they scored the same in both rounds. Kay's 75 in the second round was good for his season-low.
"We competed hard today," said NIU head coach Tom Porten. "We never quit. We showed patience and discipline for the whole day, which is something we haven't done yet. Matt Gorman got off to a good start and that really helped us out today. It was nice to see Matt Triplett bounce back in the afternoon.
"We have a good opportunity to capitalize on some of this equity that we have built up today. I'm anxious for us to get out there tomorrow and make some noise."
The Huskies will play the final 18 holes tomorrow with an 8 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start.
