HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Northern Illinois stands in seventh place after day one at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan. The Huskies totaled a 606 (305-301) in the first two rounds at Mission Inn.

All but one of the teams ahead of Northern Illinois after the first two rounds are among the top 76 teams in the Golfweek Division I rankings.

Alex Wagner (St. Charles, Ill./East) paced the Huskies with a first-day score of 149, improving from a first round 77 to a second round 72 to sit in 18th position. Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) fired a first round 73 and totaled a two-round score of 153 to tie for 34th.

The trio of Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington), Greg Bauman (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) and Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) each shot a 155 and are tied for 43rd overall. Bauman's second-round 74 was the best 18-hole score posted by the three Huskies.

"The course was difficult during the morning (first round) and we played better during the afternoon, but were unable to take advantage of some good scores," said head coach John Cleary. "Andrew [Frame] led us during the first round and we got good performances from Alex [Wagner] and Greg [Bauman] in round two. We are looking forward to getting back out there and we should be better tomorrow."

NIU wraps up its fall schedule with the tournament's final round on Tuesday.
