DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois men's golf team is heading south this weekend to play in the two-day, 54-hole Missouri State Invitational hosted at Branson Creek Golf Club. The Hollister, Mo. tournament will be played Monday, April 5th with 36 holes and Tuesday, April 6th with the final 18 on the par 71 course.
Three other Illinois schools, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois, and Bradley, will join the Huskies in the field. Also competing on the 6,929-yard course will be Creighton, Houston Baptist, Missouri State, Stephen F. Austin, and Northern Iowa.
NIU is coming off a 14th-place finish last weekend at the Florida Atlantic Invitational in Delray Beach, Fla. Griffin Bauman paced the Huskies with his 35th-place tie, shooting nine over par for the three round event.
"We are looking forward to our trip to Branson," said NIU head men's golf coach Tom Porten. "We have heard great things about the course. "It's been a great weather week for practice. We feel prepared to contend this week. Matt Gorman is back in the line-up. He is swinging the club very well and should solidify the No. 4 position and Greg Pohlmann is getting better each day."
This week's starters will be Jeff Dick, Bauman, Matt Triplett, Matt Gorman, and Greg Pohlmann, respectively. Paul Hammerschmidt will also be competing as an individual.
