DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois juniors Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill./Manteno HS) and Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett HS), who each carry a grade point average above 3.9, were named to the 2009 Academic All MAC Men's Golf team Wednesday by the league office. The Huskie duo claimed two of the five spots on the elite squad to continue a streak in which NIU has had at least one men's golfer on the Academic All-MAC team in each of the last six years. The team is selected by a vote of the league's faculty athletic representatives.

Kay and Frame were each named to the Academic All MAC team for the first time. NIU Head Coach John Cleary said the honor is well-deserved.

"Tim and Andrew are extremely deserving of this recognition from the MAC, as they are perfect examples of true student-athletes," Cleary said. "On the course, they were two of the stalwarts on our team this year and in the classroom, you just cannot get much better."

Kay carries a 3.96 grade point average in accountancy, the highest GPA on the Academic All-MAC squad, and posted a scoring average of 75.7 while playing in nine of the Huskies' 10 tournaments. He was NIU's number two finisher in four tournaments on the year with his best finish a tie for seventh at the Davidson Invitational.

Frame ranked third on the NIU team in scoring average with a 75.6 in nine tournaments and 27 rounds on the season. He was Northern Illinois' top golfer in three events and earned four top 20 finishes on the season. Frame owns a 3.91 grade point average in elementary education which was second on the Academic All-MAC squad to Kay.

Frame and Kay were also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District at-large second team earlier this spring.

The two Huskie golfers were joined on the squad by Eastern Michigan's Nick Carbary, Kent State's John Hahn and Toledo's Jean-Hubert Trahan. To be eligible for the team, golfers must have a 3.20 grade point average and have participated in over 50 percent of the team's competitions. Freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible.
