DeKALB, Ill. - Several Northern Illinois golfers have accumulated awards and posted strong performances during the summer. The Huskies' recent highlights are listed below.

JECKLIN EARNS SECOND CONSECUTIVE CLEVELAND GOLF ALL-AMERICA SCHOLAR AWARD: Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) claimed his second consecutive Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar award as announced by the GCAA All-America Scholars Committee. Juniors and seniors with a 3.2 minimum cumulative grade-point average are eligible for the award. In addition, Division I athletes must obtain under a 76.0 stroke average. Jecklin, who completed his eligibility in the spring and earned the MAC Sportsman of the Year award, led the Huskies with a 75.0 stroke average last season. Jecklin's honor marks the fourth straight season that a NIU player has earned the award.

HUSKIE QUARTET TO COMPETE AT ILLINOIS STATE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP: Four NIU golfers will play in the Illinois State Amateur Championship, August 12-14 at Cantigny Golf Course in Wheaton. Chad Koschmann (Lake Forest, Ill./College of Lake County), Matt Triplett (St. Charles, Ill./East), Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) and Greg Bauman (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) all will compete in the 72-hole stroke play tournament. Triplett recorded the best finish of the quartet in the qualifying tournament, tying for third at Marengo Ridge. Live scoring for the Illinois State Amateur Championship is available on www.cdga.org

KAY TIES FOR NINTH AT ILLINOIS OPEN: Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) finished in a tie for ninth at the Illinois Open July 28-30 at Hawthorn Woods Country Club. Kay finished at +1 for the tournament with a three-round score of 214, six strokes off the lead, and third-best among amateurs.

 

 

DICK COMPETES AT TEXAS STATE OPEN: Jeff Dick (Sherman, Texas) finished in a tie for 48th at the Texas State Open against a field that included many professional golfers. Among amateurs, Dick was eighth in the field, finishing at +8 for the tournament. His best round came on the first 18 holes when he fired a 69.

HOSKING WINS WISCONSIN JUNIOR PGA TITLE: Incoming freshman Max Hosking (Madison, Wisc./La Follette) fired a final-round 64 to claim the Wisconsin Junior PGA Championship on July 1. His two-round total of 134 gave him the title by two strokes.

ROSENTHAL CLAIMS A PAIR OF MINNESOTA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Incoming freshman Adam Rosenthal (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) won a pair of junior golf titles in Minnesota during the month of July. Rosenthal won the 2008 Players' Tour Match Play Championship on July 30 and was named the 2008 Players' Tour Series "B" Champion based on total points earned throughout the summer season.
