Bloomington, Ind.- No. 19 Northern Illinois men's soccer was edged by No. 6 Indiana 1-0 in the second-round of NCAA Tournament play on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Armstrong Stadium.

Indiana's Brian Ackley scored the only goal of the contest in the 20th minute.  Ackley converted the ball off of a series of Hoosier passes; teammate John Mellencamp was credited with the assist.

Ackley's goal was only the third netter allowed by NIU keeper Joe Zimka (Algonquin, Ill./ Jacobs) in more than 1,200 minutes of action.  Zimka has performed admirably between the pipes for the Huskies this season.  He had one save on the night and ended his season with a goal-against average of 0.21.

The Huskies had a chance to counter in the 25th minute when NIU was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty kick situation.  Forward Marcus McCarty (Fort Worth, Tex./ Fossil Ridge) blasted the ball to the lower left pocket of the net only to be knocked away by Indiana's diving goalkeeper Chay Cain.

The Huskies finished their season with a 15-6-1 record.  The 15 victories in 2006 was the highest total by a NIU team since 1989, when the team went 14-4-2.
