Northern Illinois Men's Soccer Squad's Spring Exhibition Slate Features Trio of One-Day Tournaments

DeKalb, IL -- Northern Illinois University men's soccer coach Steve Simmons has combined an ambitious and busy schedule for his Huskie program's spring exhibition schedule.

Essentially, NIU has a trio of one-day tournaments with Northern Illinois taking part in the April 1 University of Notre Dame Round Robin Tournament starting with a high-noon showdown versus Oakland (MI) University. Then comes a 1 p.m. match with the host Fighting Irish followed at 2 p.m. with a contest against Michigan State University.

On April 8, Northern Illinois' Bob Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium is the location for a triangular tournament which has NIU taking on Northwestern University at 4 p.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. match between NU's Wildcats and the University of Illinois-Chicago. The capper is a 7 p.m. meeting between host NIU and UIC's Flames.

Last but not least on the spring schedule is the Illinois Governor's Cup Tournament set for April 22 at Educational Park in Decatur, IL. This year's rotatiion has Northern Illinois facing Eastern Illinois University at 3 p.m. while Western Illinois University and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville meet in the other 3 p.m. contest. The winners meet for the title at 5:30 p.m. while the losers of those first games square off at 5:30 p.m. to determine the third-place finisher.
