Jeskey Earns Trio of Weekly Honors
Sept. 29, 2008
DeKALB - Senior midfielder Drew Jeskey, who scored two goals in 24th-ranked Northern Illinois' 4-2 win over Florida Atlantic, Friday, has been named to two national men's soccer teams of the week. In addition to being named the Huskies' first Mid-American Conference Player of the Week this year, Jeskey (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) earned a place on both the TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News teams of the week. Jeskey returned from a five-game absence caused by injury to score a pair of goals and lead Northern Illinois to victory over FAU in the Huskies' MAC season opener. His first goal came with NIU trailing the Owls 1-0 in the 15th minute. Jeskey equalized the match with a header into the net after a corner kick from Engebreth Faerden (Olso, Norway/Academy for Elite Athletes). His second goal came in almost identical fashion, only assisted by Luis De La Cerda (Guadalajara, Mexico/Waubonsie Valley), and put the Huskies up 2-1 in the opening minute of the second half. Jeskey is the second player to earn a place on the TopDrawerSoccer Men's College Team of the Week, as fellow senior Joe Zimka (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) earned the honor two weeks ago. The Huskies continue their season, Saturday, when they host No. 9 Akron in a battle of top-25 MAC rivals.
