Northern Illinois forward Marcus McCarty (Fort Worth, TX/ Fossil Ridge) was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week. This past weekend McCarty had one goal against Western Michigan (Oct. 6) and tallied a game-winning assist over Western Illinois (Oct. 8). McCarty has recorded seven goals and four assists for the Huskies on the year.
"Marcus has steadily put points on the board for us and come up big all season " NIU head coach Steve Simmons said. "This week's award is indicative of all the hard work he has put into the season and we look forward to watching him continue to acclimate himself with our team."
McCarty currently leads the MAC in goals scored with seven to date. He also leads the Huskies in several categories including: points (14) goals (7), game-winning goals (4), shots (35) and shots on goal (14) in addition to being tied for first in assists (4) with teammate Chris VanDuerm.
McCarty's MAC Player of the Week award was preceded by the nominations of midfielder Chris VanDuerm (Oct. 4) and goalkeeper Joe Zimka (Sept. 27).
NIU is currently 10-3-1 on the season, 3-0 in their MAC campaign and fourth in the Great Lakes Top 10. The Huskies are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 14) when they will host Akron (7-3-0, 2-0 MAC) at Huskie Soccer Field for a 2 p.m. conference match-up.
