Northern Illinois' Steve Simmons A Finalist For The NSCAA Coach Of The Year Award
Dec. 13, 2006 DeKalb, Ill. - Northern Illinois head men's soccer coach Steve Simmons is one of the finalists for this year's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coach of the Year. Named the 2006 NSCAA Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year for the first time, Simmons led the Huskies to a 15-6-1 record, which were the most wins in program history. Simmons is no stranger to honors in 2006, as he was voted by league coaches the Mid-American Conference Gary V. Palmisano Coach of the Year. It is the second time that Simmons has received the MAC Coach of the Year honor (2004). In 2006, Simmons guided the Huskies to the MAC regular season title, won the MAC Championship Tournament, went to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament and earned a No. 19 national ranking. This years NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year honor was not Simmons first. Previously in 2000 while coaching at Linfield College [Division III], Simmons was named the NSCAA Far West Regional Coach of the Year. The NSCAA Coach of the Year will be announced later this month. --NIU-- (For further information, please contact Katie Hein at 815.753.9572).
