Christian Hansen comes to NIU as a graduate assistant, adding to the coaching staff of Head Coach Patrick Fisher. He is pursuing a master's degree in sport management, having graduated from Valdosta State University with a business management degree. Hansen looks to help the Huskies reach their goal of winning the MAC Conference in 2014 to qualify for the National Championships.
As a player, Hansen started out at the University of Tennessee. He played positions 5 and 6 in his season at the institution. The Cologne, Germany native won the final match of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., against Alabama in 2009. Also during that season, Hansen received SEC Freshman of of the Week honors after completing a come-from-behind 4-3 victory against Louisville to advance to the ITA Indoor Round of 16 that year.
Hansen transferred to Valdosta State University in August of 2009. As a member of the Blazers, he excelled in doubles play. In 2010, Hansen and his teammate, Daniel Dueren made it to the USTA/ITA National College Championships. However, the duo fell in the final round. Hansen would not be denied twice though.
Partnering with Luis Loeffler and ranked number one in the country in Division II, Hansen went on to win Regionals as well as the National Doubles Championship. The two then moved on to qualify for the National Indoor Division I Doubles Championship at Flushing Meadows, N.Y., in which they made a run to the quarterfinal. This was a historic feat for Hansen and Loeffler as they were the first Blazers to qualify for the National Indoor Division I Championships in school history.
