Amir named first team, while Lagerlof and Turtygin earn second team honors
Now in his third year as an assistant coach, former Huskie Javier Bernabe joins Head Coach Patrick Fisher to again assist the men's program. Bernabe brings familiarity to the Northern Illinois tennis program and assists with all areas of the program.
In his time as an assistant at NIU, Bernabe has assisted in recruiting, travel, scheduling and budgeting. He has also run individual sessions for players, as well as practices in season and in the off season. Bernabe assisted the Huskies to their first ever Mid-American Conference Championship in 2012 and NIU's first 20-win season since 1989.
As a player for the Huskies, Bernabe was named a second team All-Mid American Conference selection as a junior in 2009, finishing 15-11 in singles and 11-11 in doubles. As a senior, the native of Segovia, Spain was honored with the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award, an award voted on by Mid-American Conference coaches.
In the classroom, he also excelled for Northern Illinois, earning Academic All-MAC honors three times for the Huskies. He earned his degree in business in 2010 and is currently in pursuit of an MBA from the Northern Illinois School of Business. Bernabe would also like to pursue a masters degree in sport management as well.
Bernabe was a four year letterman for the Huskies and played for three different head coaches in his time in DeKalb.
