RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Northern Illinois mens tennis team opened day one of the River Forest Invitational with strong performances in both singles and doubles play. The five competing Huskies combined for a 6-4 record in singles play and 2-1 in doubles.
NIU's winners in the first round, Maksym Bartiuk, Axel Lagerlof and Max Phillips, all took their match's to a third and final set. All were victorious in their effort and tidied things up in the second round with victories, with only Lagerlof playing to a tiebreaking set.
In doubles play, Bartiuk and partner Maksym Lagutin dominated their first round match a perfect 8-0 score against Chicago pair Troy Brinker and Ankur Bhargava.
The men will look to continue their successful run tomorrow as they continue the River Forest Collegiate.
