River Forest Final

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Northern Illinois men’s tennis closed its opening weekend of the fall with success at the River Forest Collegiate Invitational as Frederic Cadieux and Simon Formont won their singles flights and Dor Amir and Cadieux won their doubles flight. The three-day tournament was played on clay.
Cadieux and Amir appeared in the first flight and dominated play to reach the finals where they played each other. In the final however, the sophomore battle ensued and Cadieux defeated Amir, 7-6, 6-2. The native of Verdun, Quebec, Canada lead the Huskies in wins last spring with 25.
Formont, a freshman from Orléans, France, played in the fourth flight of the tournament and staked his claim in the flight with three-straight victories. After defeating IPFW’s Joao Freitas, 7-5, 6-2, in the first round, he went on defeat Johnathan Raa of UIC, 6-4, 6-7, (10-8) in the semifinals and dominated Youngstown State’s Rodrigo Campos, 6-0, 6-1, in the finals.
In the third flight, Southern Miss transfer Jovan Zeljkovic reached the final of flight three with impressive wins over UIC’s Maurizio Feoli (6-4, 7-6) and YSU’s Max Schmerin (6-1, 6-2,). In the final match however, he lost to Belmont’s Fernando Mussolini, 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles flight one, the Huskies dominated play with Amir and Cadieux defeating their first pair of Butler, Austin Woldmoe and Billy Welden, 8-3, and the Penguins Silviu Mistreanu and Zeeshan Ismail, 8-4.
Their opponents in the final, the NIU pair of Axel Lagerlof and Formont, defeated BU’s Renato Antun and Henrik Claesson, 8-5, and the Flames Alan Reifer and Feoli, 8-5, to reach the final against their teammates. However, Amir and Cadieux would march through their match, 8-1.
The Huskies will return to action Sept. 21 for the Drake Invitational.
