Muncie, Ind. - The Northern Illinois men's tennis team finished its participation at the Ball State Invitational on a great note as freshman Ross VanderPloeg (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) won his Flight D singles finals match over Gustavo Villares (Duquesne), 6-3, 7-5.

"Ross had a good weekend, winning four matches in and his first collegiate tournament," said Huskie head coach Pawel Gajdzik. "Overall, the whole team competed well this weekend. We have two weeks ahead of us of hard work to prepare for the regionals at Ohio State."

The Huskies will compete at ITAs on Thursday, October 16 in Columbus, Ohio.
