Oct. 20, 2007
Minneapolis, Minn. - Both Northern Illinois senior Alex Friesen (Vancouver, B.C. / Burnaby Central) and junior Brian Livingston (Skokie, Ill. / Niles North) proudly wore the Cardinal and Black and represented themselves in fine fashion as each advanced to the final round of 32 before falling at the ITA Midwest Region IV Men's Tennis Tournament on Saturday at the University of Minnesota Baseline Center. "Both played well in their first match to get to the second round," NIU head men's tennis coach Pontus Hiort said of Friesen and Livingston. "They fought hard, but it just wasn't enough. "They each had a heck of a tournament." Friesen opened with a 7-5, 6-3 over Toledo's Chris Clark before falling to Michigan's Jason Jung (6-3, 6-4) in his bid for the "Sweet 16". Livingston opened with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Notre Dame's Stephen Havens and fell in his next match, a 6-4, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Ohio State's Drew Eberly. NIU returns to action on January 20, 2008 as they travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to square off with IUPUI at 10 a.m. --NIU--
