CLEVELAND, Ohio - Simon Formont of NIU's men's tennis team has been named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week for his efforts last weekend in NIU's three wins against Detroit, Southern Illinois, and UW-Whitewater. The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is given based on a voting process which involves faculty athletic representatives from institutions in the MAC.
A finance major, Formont produced a great weekend for the Huskies. He played three No. 6 singles matches, winning them all. Only one of his matches needed a third set to decide a victor, which came against Southern Illinois' Filip Aleksic. Formont took the back-and-forth battle, winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. Along with his teammate Frederic Cadieux, he also went 2-1 in doubles play in the three matches.
Formont is currently undefeated in singles play in 2014, holding a 6-0 record. He and the rest of the Huskies will get back on the courts on Friday, February 7 to take on SIU-Edwardsville at 5:00 p.m. at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford, Ill. The Huskies will also hit the road for a match on Sunday, February 9 at 4:00 p.m. against Indiana.
