CLEVELAND, Ohio - NIU's men's tennis team took both MAC weekly awards for the Huskies' efforts last weekend in two matches against IUPUI and Iowa. Axel Lagerlof and Dor Amir have been named MAC Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this season, and Simon Formont took the MAC Singles Player of the Week honor, the first Huskie to win it this season.
On Tuesday, February 11, Lagerlof and Amir were dubbed the 37th best doubles team in collegiate tennis by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The ITA ranks the top 60 tandems in the nation every two weeks, and because Lagerlof and Amir have started the season so strong, they find themselves ranked among the elite collegiate players in the nation. Last weekend, this pairing won both of their doubles matches to improve to 9-1 this season.
Over on the singles side, Formont has had quite the start to his 2014 campaign. The sophomore from Orleans, France has yet to lose this season, as he sits at 10-0 to begin the year. This includes last weekend's performances, when he won both of his No. 6 matches to help the Huskies stay undefeated at the Boylan Tennis Center (7-0).
These Huskies along with their teammates will stay at home this week, as they have three matches to play at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford, Ill. On Thursday, February 20, the Huskies will host Butler for an evening match at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, February 22, the NIU will face Western Illinois at 1:00 p.m. and Dayton at 5:00 p.m.
