DeKALB, Ill. - After a clean sweep of the Western Illinois Leathernecks and a strong fight against the Green Bay Phoenix, the Northern Illinois Men’s Tennis team takes their talents to the Hoosier State. The Huskies will meet Butler and IUPUI on the courts this weekend on March 2-3 in Indianapolis.

Northern Illinois (7-3) went 7-0 against the Leathernecks winning every match in the doubles and singles competition Feb. 23.  At No.1, Dor Amir went head-to-head with Brad Holt prevailing in the third set, 6-2, 6-7, 10-6. Junior Jovan Zeljkovic demolished his competition in two sets at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0.

Frederic Cadieux extended his winning streak to nine wins but then fell to Craig Cox of Green Bay after a long battle, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Huskies clinched the doubles title against the Phoenix winning two-of-three matches but fell short in the singles competition. Northern Illinois finished the match against Green Bay, 4-1.

The Huskies will open up competition against the Butler who is 5-7 this season. The Bulldogs are coming off of a successful weekend after a win at Dayton, 5-2, on Feb. 22. Butler has faced a tough schedule this year and has not seen much success since their three-match winning streak in January.

Northern Illinois will close the weekend against the IUPUI Jaguars a 2-10 team whose victories have come against the Saint Louis Billikins (2-8) and Dayton (2-16).

Following this weekend, the Huskies will return to action on March 8 against Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis.
