DeKALB, Ill. - The Huskies are set to hit the road on Thursday to face the No. 72 Marquette Golden Eagles (8-4) at 6:00 p.m. NIU is coming off nearly a two week break as the team has not competed since February 22.
NIU found success in its last affairs at home. The team notched two wins in a doubleheader against Dayton and Western Illinois. The Huskies did not allow either opposition to take point each match, as they took 7-0 and 4-0 victories against Western Illinois and Dayton respectively. The wins brought the Huskies' record to 10-3 this season.
Marquette is having a fine season in 2014 at 8-4. The Golden Eagles come into the match against NIU having won four of their last five affairs. Dan Mamalat and Vukasin Teofanovic (9-2) will likely be facing Axel Lagerlof and Dor Amir (12-1) in the No. 1 doubles match. They should provide a challenge for the Huskie tandem, as they come into the affair on a seven-match win streak.
Simon Formont (12-0) has been on fire this season in singles play. He still has yet to lose, playing matches in the No. 4, 5, and 6. He has improved a lot from the 2013 spring season, when he ended the year 19-13.
After the match at Marquette, the Huskies will head to Florida for spring break. On Monday, March 9, they'll face Troy at 4:00 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. This will be the first of three matches in the state, as they also take on Southern Mississippi and Florida Atlantic while they're down there. The match against Southern Mississippi will be in Palm City, Fla. set to begin at noon on Tuesday, March 10. On Wednesday, March 12, NIU will head back for Fort Lauderdale to compete against Florida Atlantic at 4:00 p.m. All times are Central Standard Time.
