DeKALB, Ill. - The Huskies are back in action this weekend. They'll remain at home to play Saint Louis (6-5) on Saturday, March 22. The match will be at 1:00 p.m. played in Rockforld, Ill. at the Boylan Tennis Center.
Over spring break, the Huskies went 2-1 to improve to 12-5 this spring. They took down Troy on Monday, March 10 4-2, and Head Coach Patrick Fisher took the opportunity to experiment with some different doubles teams to see if new combinations would work out. The next day, NIU faced Southern Mississippi. This one ended in a 4-3 defeat. NIU was able to bounce back on Wednesday, March 12 against Florida Atlantic, taking a 4-1 shortened affair due to the heat in Florida.
Frederic Cadieux and Simon Formont received recognition from the MAC after going 2-0 over the week in doubles play. The tandem was named MAC Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week. With victories in the contests against Southern Mississippi and Florida Atlantic, Cadieux and Formont now own a 9-4 record in 2014. They've been especially tough over the last few weeks, winning five straight doubles matches.
The Saint Louis Billikens have hit a nice stride lately, getting wins against Lindenwood-Belleville, Fordam, and La Salle. Vuk Poledica has put together a nice senior campaign thus far. He is 8-3 this spring, doing most of his damage in the No. 4 with a 5-1 record there. Yehia El Sallaly has also been performing well lately, as he comes into the match against NIU having won four straight singles matches in the No. 3.
That will be all for men's tennis this weekend. Originally, the Huskies were scheduled to play Cardinal Stritch later in the day on Saturday, but due to a scheduling conflict, the match was cancelled. This match against Saint Louis will be NIU's final tune-up before conference play. Next week, on Friday, March 28, the Huskies will head to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan at 3:00 p.m.
