DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois men's tennis team will hit the road on Friday, March 28 for a match at Western Michigan (10-8). The Huskies will face the Broncos at 1:00 p.m. in their first MAC match this season.
Last time out, the NIU hosted the St. Louis Billikens. The Huskies were strong throughout the affair, winning 7-0. The victory pushed their record to 13-5 this season. It was the sixth time this year that NIU bested team in a 7-0 final.
Matt Lynch and Jovan Zeljkovic were standout performers in the win over the Billikens. Zeljkovic won his singles match against Nishad Balachandran, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4. Lynch took down Paarth Dodhiawala in the No. 6 in a 6-2, 6-3 final. In doubles play, these two teamed up to beat Vuk Poledica and Dodhiawala in the No. 3, 8-4. For their efforts, Zeljkovic was named MAC Player of the Week and both of them were awarded the MAC Doubles Team of the Week honor.
The Western Michigan Broncos come into this match having won their last two. They've been tough on their home courts this season, going 8-2 in such affairs. Nadin Indre has been the top singles player on the Broncos this year. He owns a 13-4 record with all of his matches coming in the No. 1.
The match against the Broncos is the lone one of the weekend for the Huskies. Next up is a home match against Ball State. It will be on Saturday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. As of now, it is set to be played at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford, Ill. However, if weather permits, it may be played on the outdoor courts in DeKalb, Ill. at NIU. NIUHuskies.com will have updates on the location.
