CLEVELAND, Ohio - After a successful season which saw the Huskies become regular season champions in the MAC, three members of the team have been named to the MAC All-Academic team. Dor Amir, Simon Formont, and Frederic Cadieux were named to the team.
"I'm really happy for these guys," said Head Coach Patrick Fisher. "It's great for our program. It shows the type of character we have on this team."
Amir was honored for a second straight year as an All-Academic MAC athlete. A finance major, Amir's 3.38 GPA combined with his excellent play on the courts this season was enough to earn him a spot on the team. Played at No. 1, 2, and 3 in the 2013-14 season, going 19-11 overall individually. In doubles, he joined forces with teammate Axel Lagerlof to produce an 18-2 record. This tandem's outstanding performance this season earned them a national ranking in doubles twice, peaking at No. 37.
Cadieux also claimed a consecutive honor. A business major who just finished his junior year, Cadieux holds one of the highest GPA's on the team at 3.83. Cadieux led the team in singles victories in 2013-14, going 27-9 on the season. He went unbeaten at No. 2, finishing 8-0 in such affairs. Over in doubles, he played mostly with fellow honoree to go 16-8.
Formont claims honor as a member of the MAC All-Academic team. Formont just completed his sophomore year, majoring in finance. He too holds a 3.83 GPA. It was a great year in singles for the Orleans, France native. He went 23-8 overall, and in the spring, he was nearly unstoppable. Shouldering the load at No. 5 and 6, Formont was 18-3 in spring singles contests.
also had a strong season on the courts and in the classroom. He was listed as an honorable mention on the MAC All-Academic team.
"We did well as a team," added Fisher. "These guys got recognized, but Axel also had his best year academically. Carlos [Manzanas] and Matt [Lynch] each had a strong year in the classroom as well. They're setting themselves up for recognition in future seasons."
