DES MOINE, Iowa - The Northern Illinois men's tennis team completed its second day of action at the Drake Invitational with the start of singles play. Huskies Simon Formont and Axel Lagerlof advanced to the final round in their respective flights, giving NIU the opportunity to win a total of three flights of nine.

Lagerlof opened play in the C flight with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Creighton's Brandon Lee and with confidence on his side, completely shutdown Iowa's Rob Trower, 6-0, 6-0. The Malmo, Sweden native will faceoff against Northern Colorado's Jordan Loughan tomorrow morning in the final.

Formont appeared in the D flight of the tournament and defeated a Bluejay like his teammate Lagerlof in the opening round. The Orleans, France native dropped CU's Sean Mathison, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round and worked for a win against UNC's Michael Moya, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. He will go head-to-head with Quinn Dippel from Creighton in the final tomorrow.

In the E flight, the Huskies have a chance to win the flight as Jovan Zeljkovic remains in the front side of the bracket after his win over Gustavus Adolphus' Logan Peterson, 6-1, 6-3. He was unable to finish his second round match versus Elliot Baker of CU.

NIU will close the Drake Invitational tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
