DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois men’s tennis team closed the first day of the Tom Fallon Invitational 4-3, with two wins each against Notre Dame and Michigan State, two nationally ranked teams last season. Rain delayed play for two hours and 45 minutes.
“It was a pretty good day today,” said Head Coach Patrick Fisher, “Jovan (Zeljkovic) was in a position to win his match against Notre Dame and improve us to 5-3. It would have been nice to beat them head-to-head. Tomorrow will be tougher for our guys and we will need to step it up.”
Huskies Dor Amir and Axel Lagerlof both defeated their opponents from UND to combine NIU 2-1 against the Fighting Irish. Amir dfeated Ken Sabacinski, 6-2, 6-1, and Lagerlof won in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0.
