Northern Illinois' men's tennis team is headed to its final event of the fall season, the ITA Midwest Regional. The tournament is being hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Both the Varsity Tennis Courts and the Bethel Racquet Club will be utilized during the first two days of the regional. After Friday's matches, play will be held exclusively on the Varsity Tennis Courts. The tournament will run from Thursday, October 17 to Monday, October 21. Aside from NIU, 20 other teams will have players competing in the event, including Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit Mercy, Illinois, Illinois State, Illinois Chicago, IPFW, Marquette, Michigan State, Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Youngstown state.
The first day will feature the first two rounds of the Singles Qualifying Draw. The top nine performers in this bracket will be admitted into the Singles Main Draw, which begins on Friday, October 18. Four Huskies are competing in the main draw, including Frederic Cadieux, Carlos Manzanas, Matt Lynch, and Jovan Zeljkovic. Cadieux has the highest seed of the NIU players, claiming the second seed in the bracket.
In the Singles Main Draw, two Huskies received an automatic bid for the bracket, Axel Lagerlof and Dor Amir. Neither are seeded in the bracket.
Doubles play will begin on Friday as well. There are three Huskie teams in the bracket. Amir and Lagerlof are teaming up as they have all fall. Cadieux and Formont form another team for NIU. Lynch and Zeljkovic form the third team for NIU, and they have the best record of Huskie men's tennis doubles teams this fall with a 6-1 record through two events.
The Midwest Regional is the final event of the men's tennis fall season. The Huskies will start the spring season on Friday, January 17 against Drake.
